Location: REI-Bloomington Community Room (in the back of the store, by women's shoes)
Description: Sigurd F. Olson, whose evocative books on the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness continue to be purchased by canoeing enthusiasts, also had a remarkable conservation career that helped launch his writing career. He began that work as a young man in the 1920s, and by the early 1950s he had catapulted to the national stage. This conservation career in turn helped launch his celebrated writing career. This presentation tells the story of Sigurd Olson, the conservation of the BWCAW, and how both intertwined with the national wilderness movement. Presentation by historian/author Kevin Proescholdt (and one of our favorite Ikes, along with Sigurd Olson!).

Annual Membership Meeting - 3PM
The Bush Lake Chapter will hold its 78th anual membership meeting for the election of board members and officers and to deliberate on revised bylaws and a two-class membership system by which we will offer both regular and family memberships.
At 4:30PM we will eat roasted corn and other great food from the grill. Please bring something to grill and a dish to pass. We will provide roasted corn, butter, hot grill, cold water, and condiments.
At 5PM Brad Walker, Upper Mississippi Coordinator for the Izaak Walton League of America will give an update on the ecological health of the river and it aging lock and dams. He will talk about the Army Corps of Engineers' campaign to expand the locks and dams in spite of declining grain shipments by barge. And he will focus on the Izaak Walton League's eforts to oppose the Corps' plans and instead to create ecologically-sound, sustainable plans for our Upper Mississippi River region and its economy. For those of you who are new to the IWLA, the fight against pollution of the Upper Mississippi was the spur to starting the Ikes in 1922, so it is both our future and our heritage.
Please RSVP that you are coming by noon on Saturday Sept 19th so we know how much corn to buy. Contact Mary or John Crampton 952-884-6704 jcrampt@comcast.net.
